Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God’” (Matt 4:4 NIV).

How are you growing in your awareness; becoming more familiar with God’s communication style with you?

To listen long and deep is to feed on and digest the written Word of God. The more familiar with His spoken and recorded Word the more we learn to discern His Spirit’s whisper and gentle leadings. Yes, especially into our loud-mouthed circumstances.

The Lord said, Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.’ Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, What are you doing here, Elijah’ (1 Kings 19:11-13, NIV)?

In life’s chaos, how well do you hear His voice?! Are you honest about why you seek Him?

“Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart (Jeremiah 29:12-13, NIV).

But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it, he will be blessed in what he does (James 1:25, NIV).

“God will be heard by those who genuinely seek Him, producing freedom.

Jesus says, My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me’” (John 10:27, NKJ)

Then He said, Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand’” (Mark 4:9, NLT).

I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts” (Psalm 119:45, NIV).

Now that’s a communication style that can be recognized and is worth pursuit!

Heavenly Father, we choose to be still and wait to hear you speak to us. We are in awe that you love to communicate with such style! Forgive us for boxing you or limiting how and what you may want to say and do in our lives. How grateful we are to receive your perfect Word. May your style become ours – long and deep.
